Our services
These are the various cardiology services we offer at the Virgen de la Victoria University Clinical Hospital in Málaga
CARDIAC SURGERY
The Cardiac Surgery Service, integrated into the Heart Unit, maintains an activity of around 350 major cardiac surgery cases per year, with up-to-date quality care.
HEMODYNAMICS
The Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology laboratory is a national leader in percutaneous aortic valve replacement in patients at high surgical risk.
HEART FAILURE
In the Heart Failure Unit, we have the equipment to establish a diagnosis, provide adequate coverage, and perform outpatient follow-up for these patients.
ADULT CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE
The Adult Congenital Heart Disease Unit is aimed at treating patients over 17 years of age with congenital heart disease, whether corrected or not, and patients diagnosed in adulthood.
CLINICAL CARDIOLOGY
The Clinical Cardiology Service includes activity carried out primarily in the outpatient area, as well as in the clinical hospitalization ward.
ARRHYTHMIAS
INHERITED CARDIAC CONDITIONS
In the Inherited Cardiac Conditions Unit, we treat channelopathies, syndromes, and other genetic-based diseases, often related to sudden death.
CARDIAC IMAGING UNIT
PULMONARY HYPERTENSION UNIT
In the Pulmonary Hypertension Unit, clinical coverage is provided to patients whose pulmonary arterial pressure is abnormal, requiring the heart to overexert itself in terms of circulatory status.
MARFAN UNIT
Since September 2010, we have had a Marfan Unit, with an official administrative agenda, which treats patients with Marfan syndrome through a multidisciplinary strategy.
CARDIAC REHABILITATION
RESEARCH LABORATORY
Its main line of research is the regeneration of damaged cardiac tissue in patients who have suffered an acute myocardial infarction or have chronic disease.

Research
The research activity of the Cardiology Service at the Virgen de la Victoria University Clinical Hospital covers multiple lines: stem cells, tissue bioengineering and regenerative medicine, electrocardiographic markers of hereditary heart disease, percutaneous implantation of cardiac prostheses, and much more.
RESEARCH
Our main lines of research focus on prevalent cardiac pathologies. The goal of our studies is to optimize patient management by seeking diagnostic and prognostic improvements, and promoting the analysis of better therapies.
University Teaching
The Heart Area of the Virgen de la Victoria University Clinical Hospital actively participates in university teaching at the UMA (University of Málaga). Members of our Service have served as clinical tutors for medical residents since 1992.
UNIVERSITY TEACHING
Chair of Advanced Therapies
The Chair in Advanced Therapies in Cardiovascular Pathology was established in 2017, following an agreement between the University of Málaga and various companies in the electromedicine sector. Its purpose is to deepen research and disseminate knowledge on cardiovascular diseases.
CHAIR OF ADVANCED THERAPIES IN CARDIOVASCULAR PATHOLOGY
Directed by Professor Eduardo de Teresa, the Chair of Advanced Therapies in Cardiovascular Pathology is sponsored by Abbott Medical, the Abbott Foundation, Biotronik, Boston, B. Braun, CSA, Medtronic, MSD, and Terumo.
Patients
The Heart Area of the Virgen de la Victoria University Clinical Hospital offers downloadable information for patients, such as recommendations for their hospital stay, advice for patients with coronary problems, and information on care after pacemaker implantation, catheterization, ablation, etc.
PATIENTS
Learn more about patients’ rights and duties, and about the heart failure patient school, with sessions taught by the patients themselves, in a new approach to traditional health education.
