Clinical Cardiology
The Clinical Cardiology Unit of the Virgen de la Victoria University Clinical Hospital includes activity carried out mainly in the outpatient clinics area and on the clinical inpatient ward.
The cardiology outpatient clinics area comprises different clinics in various locations. At the San José Obrero Specialty Centre, we have two morning clinics from Monday to Friday and another afternoon clinic. These are general Clinical Cardiology clinics and provide care for patients referred from Primary Care, as well as follow-up visits generated after discharge from hospital wards or the Emergency Department. These clinics operate as one-stop or rapid-access services, enabling echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, chest X-rays, Holter monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), or exercise stress tests to be performed shortly after the appointment, or even on the same day in some cases. These clinics account for the bulk of our outpatient clinical activity and are delivered by highly experienced professionals with excellent scientific and technical expertise.
In the outpatient clinics area of the Virgen de la Victoria Hospital, we have a single general cardiology clinic, which carries out activity similar to those at San José Obrero, although it is especially dedicated to consultations requested by other hospital departments. This clinic operates from Monday to Thursday.
There is also an arrhythmia clinic on Mondays, a dedicated heart failure clinic on Tuesdays, a cardiac rehabilitation clinic on Wednesdays, and a haemodynamics clinic on Thursdays. We also have an adult congenital heart disease clinic on Monday afternoons and a Marfan syndrome clinic, in collaboration with Cardiac Surgery. The Clinical Cardiology Unit also includes the Exercise Testing Laboratory, which carries out daily activity in collaboration with part of the Nuclear Medicine Department.
In the Clinical Inpatient Care area, care is provided to patients admitted to the Cardiology ward, whether from the Emergency Department, scheduled from outpatient clinics, or from the Coronary Care Unit. In general, patients admitted from the Arrhythmia or Haemodynamics Units are attended by physicians from those units.
