Heart Surgery
The Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Victoria, within the Heart Unit, began its activities in January 1996.
From its earliest days, its aim has been to provide the public with high-quality care that is fully up to date. The department attends around 350 major heart surgery cases per year, and there are plans to expand the postoperative area in the near future, making it possible to exceed 400 cases per year.
Surgery is carried out in a fully equipped, up-to-date operating theatre with complex monitoring systems including an echocardiography machine for systematic transesophageal echocardiography monitoring in valve surgery.
With the exception of heart transplantation and pediatric surgery, which are not included in this service’s portfolio, we have undertaken all the lines of treatment covered in modern heart surgery: heart surgery with and without cardiopulmonary bypass, conventional valve surgery, complex mitral repairs, aortic valve repair surgery, aortic root aneurysm surgery with valve preservation, as well as endovascular surgery with the insertion of endoprostheses in the thoracic aorta (ascending, arch, and descending).
