Inherited Cardiac Conditions

Inherited Cardiac Conditions
Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) are hereditary diseases (generally affecting a single gene) that impact the heart and the great arteries. They have a incidence as they occur in 1 of every 400 people.
These conditions include cardiomyopathies (hypertrophic, restrictive, dilated, arrhythmogenic, etc.) and channelopathies (Brugada syndrome, ventricular tachycardia, short or long QT syndrome, and others).
These types of conditions require a multidisciplinary approach, with the involvement of cardiologists, geneticists, sports medicine physicians, pathologists, and other professionals.
Because they share many overlapping features, these conditions are managed in the Inherited Cardiac Conditions Unit, where we treat channelopathies, syndromes, and other genetically based conditions with a familial presentation that are frequently related with sudden death.
