Cardiac Surgery
The Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Victoria, integrated within the Heart Unit, began its activity in January 1996.
From the outset, its aim has been to provide citizens with high-quality care that is fully up to date. It maintains an activity of around 350 major cardiac surgery cases per year, and there are plans in the near future to expand the postoperative area, which will make it possible to exceed 400 cases per year.
This activity is carried out in an operating theatre that is fully equipped and up to date with complex monitoring systems, including an echocardiography machine for systematic transesophageal echocardiography monitoring in valve surgery.
With the exception of heart transplantation and paediatric surgery, which for obvious reasons are not included in the service portfolio, we have developed all treatment lines in modern cardiac surgery: coronary surgery with and without cardiopulmonary bypass, conventional valve surgery, complex mitral repairs, aortic valve repair surgery, aortic root aneurysm surgery with valve preservation, as well as endovascular surgery with insertion of endoprostheses in the thoracic aorta (ascending, arch, and descending).
