Cardiology Research
Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Victoria
Our Research Work
These are the various research lines of the Cardiology Department at the Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Victoria in Málaga.
Research
The research activity of the Cardiology Department at the Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Victoria covers multiple areas: stem cells, tissue bioengineering and regenerative medicine, electrocardiographic markers of hereditary heart diseases, percutaneous implantation of cardiac prostheses, and many others.
RESEARCH
Our main research lines focus on prevalent cardiac pathologies. The goal of our studies is to optimize patient management by seeking diagnostic and prognostic improvements, and promoting the analysis of better therapeutics.
Research Activity
Our research group was born from the need for translational research as a means of providing excellent care to our patients. Our group is primarily composed of clinical researchers, although it also includes basic researchers supported by the Research Laboratory of the FIMABIS Foundation (Mediterranean Institute for the Advancement of Biotechnology and Health Research) in Málaga and the Department of Human Embryology at the Faculty of Medicine in Granada (Prof. Antonia Aránega).
The main research lines of our group focus on prevalent cardiac pathologies with the aim of optimizing patient management by seeking diagnostic and prognostic improvements. These pathologies include heart failure and the analysis of better therapeutics (resynchronization and cell therapy); diabetes mellitus and its cardiac complications, early diagnosis, and optimal revascularization treatment; severe aortic stenosis, involved pathophysiological mechanisms (myocardial fibrosis), and new therapeutic approaches (percutaneous valve prostheses); hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; coronary syndromes and acute ischemic heart disease, and the effects of pre-infarction angina.
The Heart Area has shown significant growth in its research activity over the last 3 years, with a major flow of projects funded by different organizations (Andalusian and Spanish Societies of Cardiology, ISCIII, SAS, Progreso y Salud Foundation).
